What does your work say about your relationship with society? Is it parasitic, symbiotic or altruistic?
Nobody really sees themselves as a parasite on a greater organism. Society is there to give you what you need to survive. Work is picking apples from a tree.
Symbiosis is the offering of work in return. Work that enables someone else to survive. Who are you enabling to survive?
How much of the energy you place in your work is rooted in the desire to contribute something to your culture which goes beyond monetary value?
Making yourself more aware of society’s need for work which serves a bigger purpose will offer you a reward beyond financial gain, and possibly financial gain too.
Humans are addicted to consuming art. If our diet doesn’t contain inspirational and culturally significant storytelling, we tend to begin to suffer and soon make whatever sacrifices we have to in order to fulfil this need.
Tell your own story. Or better, live it.
