It's unusual to find a maker of any kind who honestly believes that they are entirely separate from their work.
There’s a sliding scale between the person and what they produce. On the one hand, you have anonymous products. Products whose origin is inconsequential. Products that fit in, were designed to spec in order to reach a specific subset of
people. Probably to sell something else.
On the other hand, you have work that is defined by the story of the person who did it. This is work that would be inconsequential if the life and times of the creators behind it were unknown.
So nobody whose work you’ve ever heard of is anonymous. It's a Spielberg film, not a really good film regardless of the Spielberg story.
The work is the story of the person behind it.
